Within the Communication and Collaboration research group at the University of Münster, Malte Landwehr conducted research in the fields of Social Network Analysis and Social Media Analytics. The projects were funded by IBM, Microsoft, the Vodafone Foundation, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the German Research Foundation, and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

This work was originally intended to lead to a PhD in Information Systems. However, Malte did not pursue this goal to completion.
